How to Install Pedal Software

FOOT PEDAL AND EXPRESS SCRIBE SOFTWARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Express Scribe is customized software that allows you to play mp3 and Windows Media files.  It also gives you control of the dictation (play, pause, and reverse) utilizing the function keys on your keyboard and a foot pedal. Express Scribe is compatible with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/VistaWindows7 and Mac OS X.  This software is updated often.  Once you have a workable version, do not update again.

WINDOWS

  1. Plug the foot pedal into the USB port on your computer.
  2. If you have Windows 98 or Windows ME, or Mac see instructions below before continuing to the next step.
  3. Click on Install Express Scribe .  Look for "Download".
  4. Download the Transcription only version- do not check any of the option boxes such as "dictation" or the program won't work for you!
  5. A File Download box will appear. Click on Run this program from its current location.
  6. You may see a Security Warning. If this appears, click Yes.
  7. You may see the License Terms; choose I Agree, then click Next.
  8. After Express Scribe appears on your screen, click on "Settings" – or “Options"
  9. In the box labeled "Auto-Back step on Stop", enter 2000.
  10. Click on the "Controller" tab.  Check the box "enable foot pedal controller".
  11. Click the "Foot Pedal Control Wizard" button.  Depending on the version, you will usually need to choose your pedal and hit play on the pedal itself.  You may need to allow the download if you have virus protection.
  12. If you see “ports” and/or choose foot pedal, choose VEC - Infinity.
  13. If you see a pedal selection, choose 3 pedals (this works best but experiment with your computer if necessary).
  14. If you get a "hardware not detected" error, you probably have an Infinity pedal. If you change the option under "port" to "VEC Infinity USB Pedals" and try again, it should work.
  15. You will be prompted to press the rewind, fast-forward, and play pedal on your foot pedal.
  16. You may need to press the pedal again.  Pedal installation is complete – test later.
  17. After you install Express Scribe, you may need an update for it to work with your computer. Use this link for a 5.01 plug in that enables dvf files (the ones we use) to be played on "some versions" of Windows:  http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/downloads/downloads.aspx?c=DM&sc=ICD&f=PPI129&l=en.   If that version of the plug in is not for your system, try this plug in http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/308540/product/icd-sx700  Generally, one version is for Windows befor Vista and one is for after Vista.  Sorry, Microsoft made it tricky for us, but the software is free and is great!!
  18. Download and run the plug in as the website page instructs you.
  19. Close programs and Restart your computer.
